Nick’s Mix: Brighten Up Your Weekend with a Tequila Sunrise

Wake up and smell the tequila.

It’s time for another round of Nick’s Mix! Nick Carpinelli wants to show you how to easily make some of your favorite drinks — or try something new — right in the comfort of your own home. This week, we’re moving on to our next four-drink series, all focusing on great drinks involving the one and only … tequila!

Our first tequila drink is one that you’ve definitely heard of and most of you have probably tried, yet many people don’t know how to make one correctly. It’s the tequila sunrise. Nick’s going to talk you through the simple equipment and ingredients you’ll need to enjoy this drink that does the trick whether you are toasting the start of a day off or the end of a day on.

As always, the quality of the drink will vary with the quality of the tequila you are using. Watch Nick show you how it’s done, and then come back here for the recipe below here if you need it later.

Tequila Sunrise

½ pint of ice

1½ oz. Tequila

3 oz. Orange Juice (or add to taste)

1½ oz. Grenadine

1 lime

Start by filling your shaker about halfway with ice. Pour 1½ oz. tequila into the shaker. Add 3 oz. orange juice, fresh if you have it, bottled if you don’t, and be sure to add more orange juice if you don’t enjoy a stronger drink. Cover your shaker and give it a good shake. Prepare a wedge of freshly sliced lime and pour your drink into a pint glass. Slowly and carefully add 1½ oz. grenadine, allowing it to sink to the bottom of the glass. Garnish with the fresh lime wedge. Enjoy the visual aesthetic of your Tequila Sunrise!

As always, drink responsibly!
