How’s this for a Halloween treat: if you’re over the age of 12 in Chesapeake, Virginia, don’t be trick or treating or you could end up in the crowbar hotel and fined up to $100.
Seems that the city has a law that states people older than 12 can’t trick or treat. They could face up to six months in jail or up to a $100 fine, or both. Yikes.
Oh, and by the way, you’d better be off the streets by 8pm too, or you could face a fine or jail time. Officials do say “a 13 year old safely trick or treating with a younger sibling is not going to have any issues.”
Parents can accompany younger trick or treaters without penalty as well. They say they won’t be “actively seeking out violations.”
Officials say it’s all to curb mischief on Halloween. Scary stuff.
