On Sunday May 26th Taysa Coombs took her 2-year-old Mastiff-Boxer Gunner to Monadnock Park in Claremont to give him some exercise.
Gunner is a playful pup, but he has been known to take off if not leashed or in a fenced in area. So, the tennis courts were a perfect place for him. A man and woman soon arrived to play tennis.
According to Coombs she called out to the man and woman approaching the courts to wait until she could leash up her dog.
The man either didn’t hear her or didn’t listen to her and opened the gate. Gunner, excited, started to run towards the man. That was when the man pulled out a gun and shot the dog even after Coombs begged the man not to shoot.
The man and woman then fled before police could arrive, though according to reports, called police following the incident to report the shooting.
There is a happy ending to this story. Gunner, who had shattered bones, did make it through surgery and is at home recovering. The man who shot the dog did report the incident and an ongoing investigation is underway.
If you would like to donate to Gunner’s recovery, there is a GoFundMe in his name.
