We’ve all received an email that was meant for someone else. Unless it was from a Nigerian Prince that wanted to transfer millions of dollars to our own bank account. Those were definitely intended for us.
Will Novak, a 35-year-old guy in Phoenix received an email last week about a bachelor party for a guy in Vermont named Angelo.
Will doesn’t know Angelo, and certainly not from Vermont. It turns out Angelo’s friends sent him the invitation by mistake. The intended recipient is also named William Novak. The other Will (who actually goes by Bill), and his email was only one letter different.
But when Will read the email, he thought the bachelor party sounded like a blast! It’s a ski trip happening Martin Luther King weekend. Under the headline “ATTIRE”, – Bring your 80’s attire, ridiculous awesome get ups, etc. for skiing, ask yourself: “What would Angelo wear?”…. wear that!
Of course, Will in Phoenix is thinking, “right . . what WOULD Angelo wear?”
Will in Phoenix wrote back explaining the email was received in error, but that the trip sounds like so much fun, he’d still love to attend, if they’d have him. He did, however, mention that it will be an expensive trip for someone he doesn’t know. He and his wife have a new baby, he’d have to pay for airfare, a rental car, lift tickets and ski rentals, an epic 80’s outfit, a gift for Angelo, food, drinks, the whole nine.
Immediately, Angelo’s friends were totally down for having Will in Phoenix there. In fact, they insisted that he attend and offered to help pitch in some money, pick him up at the airport and have a suit waiting for him.
Still, Will in Phoenix decided to set up a GoFundMe with the goal of $750, thinking that would probably be enough to get him to the bachelor party. He met that goal in just a few hours. As of Monday morning, Will has raised over $2,700. In a recent update, Will says that Angelo and his soon-to-be-bride is expecting a baby and the money raised, over the $750 goal, will go to the baby fund.
During the many email exchanges, Will in Phoenix wrote at one point, “I should warn you, if you are all murderers and plan to harvest my kidneys – you will FAIL. I won 2 gold medals in Karate in 2nd grade and I am well trained in the deadly martial arts.”
He attached a 25-year-old photo of him in his karate uniform. That photo is now going on the back of the official bachelor party t-shirts.
According to the GoFundMe, “You can follow along with this adventure (and make sure I don’t get chopped into pieces) on my Twitter (@WillNovak13) and Instagram. I’ll be doing Instagram stories and live videos the whole time.” #AngelosBachelorParty
