Friend of mine told me a story of how he was in a deep sleep, when his dog, a yellow lab that sleeps in a crate, tried to wake him up. Typically, if the dog has to go out in the middle of the night, he will whine a little and scratch at the door of the crate.
This was different, as he explained to me, it was a low authoritative growl. Followed by a bark and a pretty aggressive scratch at the door.
My buddy knew it was out of character for the dog, so he got up to inspect. It was then he saw the front door wide open and heard someone run out. Yes, it was a burglar. And thanks to his dog alerting him, nothing was missing. He did read in the paper that the house right next door wasn’t so lucky.
According to a recent survey, one in three pet owners have been alerted to danger by their pet. Many in the survey claim their pets have warned them about fires, burglars and even can detect carbon-monoxide.
All my dogs have warned me about is that their food dish was empty!
