New Hampshire State Police are warning of a phone scam involving the impersonation of officers.
Police say a resident in Amesbury, Massachusetts, got a phone call Friday from someone who identified himself as “Trooper Connors,” said he had one of the resident’s relatives under arrest and was asking for bail money. The victim became suspicious because the relative in question is deceased.
Authorities say the caller altered his caller ID information to falsely display a number for the State Police barracks in Keene. They remind the public that troopers who legitimately call people will identify themselves and their assigned troop, and will never solicit money.
