I guess some people need to be told this. The federal government is reminding beachgoers that it’s a really bad idea to take selfies with seals or seal pups.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, taking selfies with seals is gaining popularity. They say it’s extremely dangerous to not only humans and pets, but the seals themselves.
NOAA says to stay at least 150 feet away and use a zoom lens instead. You may see more seals on the beach this time of year because it’s gray seal pupping season in New England.
If you don’t believe people would actually do this, take a look at #sealselfie on Instagram where close to 3,000 pictures are posted.
