A couple years ago the New York Transit Authority said subway riders could bring their dogs with them…as long as they fit in a carrier. Service and emotional support dogs were allowed, but any others had to be stowed away.
I think the powers that be thought it would prevent a lot of passengers with bigger dogs from bringing them on the subway…it didn’t. If anything, it only made it a challenge for big dog owners.
the New York City Subway banned dogs unless they fit in a bag and the people of New York did not disappoint. pic.twitter.com/vluNcZHBmW

My favorite picture EVER of someone bringing a dog "in a bag" on the subway 😂😂 pic.twitter.com/4PTUNofv68

Over the years, subway commuters started showing up with their furry friends in IKEA bags, pouches, renewable shopping totes, large purses, backpack, and even sporting equipment bags. One even had their dog in a Walmart tote with its legs sticking out of the bottom of it!
You’ve got to love the ingenuity of New Yorkers. Give them a challenge and they’ll rise to it every time!
