Want to get in shape? Get a dog. A new study found that dog owners walk 870 miles a year — just while walking their pup.
Dog owners walk more than 21 miles a week. On the other hand, those without a dog walk less than 14 miles a week.
75-percent of adults without a dog wish they did more walking, and 46-percent believe they would exercise more if they had a pet.
And dogs don’t just get you in shape – they make you more social. 23-percent of those surveyed said their pet has made them more outgoing and 16-percent feel more connected to the community. The average dog owner says they strike up two conversations with other dog owners during each walk.
