According to the people at Dogs Trust Dog School, you shouldn’t leave your pooch home alone for more than three or four hours at a time.
But, they say it can also depend on what breed of dog you have. All dogs are different when it comes to staying home alone.
Training your dog a little at a time to be alone is also important. This can be tough for the 40-hour work week pet owner, so they suggest walking your pet before leaving, and pet toys are also helpful.
Also, a friend or dog walker is helpful to break up the day for your dog. As you probably know, many people leave on a radio or TV at a low volume for their pets, if they are OK with leaving electronic equipment on unattended that could be a fire hazard.
And they warn that you don’t want your pet dependent on constant sound. They say the best way is to not leave them alone too dog-gone long.
