Do a lot of sitting at the office or even at home? Watch out, you might have Dead Butt Syndrome.
Yup, it’s real, and it’s a real pain in the rear. The condition is known as gluteal amnesia and is caused by sitting for long periods of time.
Basically what happens is your backside is falling asleep due to lack of movement. This can also lead to lower back pain, pain in the hips and even ankle problems.
So what can you do to wake your butt up? According to Jeff Bell, who is a master trainer at Belleon Body in New York City, “a good rule to remember is for every hour of sitting, you need to take 10 minutes of standing and moving around to reactivate and keep those butt muscles from falling asleep.”
In other words, get off your…hind side.
