Last June, I was fortunate enough to marry the gal next door. Literally. Along with my lovely gal next door I acquired two extremely wonderful little girls as my step-daughters. When I met my wife 5 some odd years ago, the girls were 4 and 8, so from about then on, my TV viewing had become slightly altered and pleasantly so.
Before I knew it I was becoming a regular/expert on everything from “Daniel Tiger” to “Johnny Test” and all things in between. Little has changed since these lovely little ladies have entered my life, outside the fact that they are obviously getting older, as we all do.
In any case, they still enjoy family oriented movies and last night was no exception. We settled in to watch “The Christmas Chronicles” on Netflix, starring the one and only Kurt Russell. I had seen the previews a few weeks before and had mentioned to my wife that we HAVE to see that! Of course, I have the girls as kind of an excuse to explore what looked like to be a really fun Santa-type Christmas movie (insert quasi-sneaky laugh).
It really made us laugh more than I thought it would. Kurt Russell does an excellent job as the not-so-much “jolly” ole St. Nick, but more like a down to earth cool St. Nick.
Note: I am not here to give a formal review. Another very cool part of this movie, is where it takes place or based out of. We’re talking about Lowell, Massachusetts to be precise.
Without giving anything away, let’s just say that there were a couple of lump in the throat moments to go along with the laughter and joy the movie brought. The Lowell connection is a super cool addition for us “locals” as well as a nice tribute of sorts to our first responders, and more specifically our firefighters.
Take my word for it, if you haven’t seen it do so! With or without kids. In these times we NEED to escape and have a laugh, ’tis the season. So kick back and enjoy what will most likely become a holiday classic, with one of “our local villages” being fully represented.
