Decision Postponed on Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant Extension

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has postponed its decision on a 20-year license extension for the Seabrook Station nuclear power plant following a request from New Hampshire’s congressional delegation to hold more public information sessions.

The commission recently issued a positive finding in a safety evaluation report of its review of Seabrook Station’s application.

The license was expected to be issued by month’s end, but New Hampshire’s congressional delegation asked the NRC to hold the information sessions to ensure interested parties are allowed to present their concerns.

Members of Massachusetts’ congressional delegation also wrote, asking the NRC to wait on its decision until after a summer hearing before the Atomic Safety Licensing Board on a contention to the license amendment brought by Newburyport, Massachusetts-based nuclear watchdog C-10.
