2 Plead Guilty to Using 9-year-old Girl to Smuggle Drugs Into Vermont Jail
NEWPORT CITY, VERMONT— Two people have pleaded guilty to charges of using a 9-year-old girl to bring drugs into a Vermont jail.
Jason Watson, 28, and Sarah Watson, 34, of Newport City, Vermont, arranged to bring drugs into the Northern State Correctional Facility by using the girl to hand off the drugs to another inmate during visitation.
According to a report in the New Caledonia Record newspaper, a Vermont State Police detective said in an affidavit, Sarah Watson showed the girl how to slip the plastic-wrapped drugs to an inmate, Chad Paquette, 38, of Winooski Vermont. The girl practiced making the transaction before going to the jail for a visitation.
The detective said a prison monitor saw the girl pass something to Paquette under a table before he put it into his mouth.
Paquette was instructed to defecate into a bucket with a bag and days later produced a fecal sample containing the drugs.
Jason and Sarah Watson pleaded guilty to various drug and delinquency charges. Paquette is in jail for other past convictions.
