Nursing Home Worker Faces 20 Years In Prison For Rape of Dementia Patient
HARTFORD, Vt. (AP) — A former worker at a Vermont assisted living facility has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting an 83-year-old resident with dementia.
The Valley News reports 23-year-old Michael Paton Jr. entered his plea Thursday to a felony count of sexual abuse of a vulnerable adult who was unable to consent.
An investigation into Paton began after a co-worker found him in the woman's room at Valley Terrace in Wilder.
Court documents show Paton later told police and staff that he had sex with the woman in 2017.
Valley Terrace Executive Director Angela Zizza declined to comment after Thursday's hearing.
Paton is facing a 10-to 20-year prison sentence as part of his plea agreement, but will not face that long of a sentence if he finishes sex offender counseling.
The counseling could take two years.
