UPDATE: Manchester man identified as suspect who punched officer in street scuffle
MANCHESTER - The man accused of punching a police officer and fleeing before being taken down with a Taser on Thursday has been identified as an 18-year-old city man.
Anthony Maldonado was charged with two counts of assault on a police officer and resisting arrest. An officer was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries sustained during the scuffle.
Police said officers responded to the area of Hospital and Chase avenues for a report of a suspicious man looking into vehicles. Officers found Maldonado on Massabesic Street and an officer approached and asked to speak with him. Maldonado then fled on foot toward Old Falls Road, which is where police say he turned and punched the officer before taking off again. Officers caught up and as they were trying to handcuff the subject, Maldonado pulled away and started kicking and punching officers. That's when police say they brought out the Taser.
Neighbors who witnessed the arrest told NH1 News the scene was chaotic.
“Like a wrestling match in the road until the other ones showed up and started Tasing him,” said David Magoon who witnessed the altercation.
“And he wound up being stunned at least two maybe three times,” said John Casey who also witnessed the encounter.
