Police: NH man tries to rob elderly woman as she unloads groceries
MANCHESTER — Police said a man attempted to rob an 83-year-old woman carrying groceries into her home with her granddaughter on Friday afternoon.
Carlos Reyes, 47, of Manchester is accused of approaching the elderly woman's first floor apartment at 411 Central St. and demanding cash.
The woman allegedly attempted to close the door and called for assistance from her 17-year-old granddaughter.
Police said the granddaughter and her boyfriend came to the woman's aid, chasing the suspect to the area of Wilson Street and Lake Avenue.
The granddaughter's boyfriend told officers that Reyes began swinging a piece of glass and a wood plank, so he backed off and waited for police to arrive.
Police found Reyes at 302 Merrimack St. a short time later.
Reyes was arrested and charged with attempted robbery, two counts of criminal threatening and placed on a 72 hour hold for probation/parole. He was scheduled to appear in Manchester district court Monday.
