Police: NH man arrested after reporting fake crime to officers
DOVER — A New Hampshire man reported that he was robbed last month but police found that he made the whole story up, a report read.
According to police, John Freeman, 39 of 149 Portland Ave. in Dover, alleged he was robbed on May 21 while walking down the street.
Freeman told police that he was walking in downtown Dover when he was approached from behind by an unknown man who claimed to have a gun. Freeman said the man demanded all his money before taking off on foot, police said.
Police said Freeman then returned home and waited twelve hours to report the incident.
After a follow up investigation detectives determined that the statements given to police were false.
According to police, Freeman turned himself in around 9 AM Monday and was released on $1,000 personal recognizance bail pending arraignment.
Freeman is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 28.
