Official AFC Championship Patriots shirts made in NH
SOMERSWORTH - A New Hampshire-based company is printing official New England Patriots T-shirts.
"They want to get these things in the hot market as soon as they can," said Peter Meyer, who co-owns Blue Dolphin Screenprinting & Embroidery with his brother, Jay.
The shirts had to be ready for pickup just several hours after the game so that they could be distributed to stores.
"We're going to be printing about 8,000 to 10,000 shirts tonight," Peter Meyer said.
The shirts had to be approved by the NFL and is part of a sub-contract license agreement with Nike. They can't be printed, however, until the company is absolutely sure the team will win. That's why the turn-around is literally just several hours.
"[People] always ask me: 'What do you do with the shirts for the losing team?' The answer is - there are none," said Cory West of Paramount Apparel.
Blue Dolphin shirts, who has been printing shirts for Boston sports teams for years, said they got the go-ahead to start printing shirts around 9:45 p.m., during the fourth quarter when the score was 38-7, Patriots.
This isn't the first time the company has been contracted to do shirts like this - and when it comes to championship apparel, they're a leader in printing high-quality images using the latest in technology.
"We do quite a bit of apparel for New Balance, we do a lot of work for Olympia Sports where some of these shirts will end up tomorrow morning," said co-owner Jay Meyer.
But there is some risk. If the Patriots hadn't won, they wouldn't have been able to make any shirts.
"We just count our blessings and hope they win that game," Peter Meyer said.
The Meyer's say if the Patriots win the Super Bowl, and they again get a T-shirt agreement, they could print more than 20,000 shirts which will be sold in stores across New England.
