Storm-Related Collision with Tractor-Trailer Kills Woman, Injures Driver
PORTSMOUTH — Interstate 95 was closed for several hours Wednesday night after a crash killed one woman.
The New Hampshire State Police and the Portsmouth Fire Department responded to the crash around 6:40 p.m. and found a Freightliner tractor-trailer and Honda Civic collided on I-95 southbound.
The driver of the Honda Civic, Daniel Powers, 36, of Boston, attempted to change lanes in front of the tractor-trailer but lost control of his vehicle, police said. The tractor-trailer struck the passenger side of the Civic.
The passenger in the Civic, identified as Courtney Hickson, 36, of Chelsea, Massachusetts, was taken to the Portsmouth Regional Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Powers also was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital for life-threatening injuries.
Police said speed and impairment appear to be possible contributing factors in this collision but no further information is being released at this time.
This collision is being investigated by Trooper Jonathon Minnich of the New Hampshire State Police. Anyone with information related to this collision is asked to contact Minnich at 603-223-8490.
