The Concord Ice Is Nice and Ready for Lots and Lots of Pond Hockey
White’s Park in Concord is the site for the eighth annual Black Ice Pond Hockey Championship and Festival starting Friday.
“This year’s Black Ice will host 100 teams and close to 700 hockey players,” said even organizer Chris Brown.
Also new this year is the first ever “Shinny Classic” featuring youth hockey teams from around New Hampshire. The tournament also continues to offer plenty of family activities including interactive games, a rock wall, bonfires, live entertainment, fireworks, food trucks and ice and snow sculptures.
The tournament had originally been scheduled for the weekend of Jan. 26 but had to be postponed because of warm weather concerns.
Created in 2010, the Black Ice Pond Hockey Association nonprofit began as a way to maintain and expand ice skating opportunities as well as honoring the rich heritage of hockey in Concord.Over the past two years, the success of Black Ice has raised well over $250,000.
To alleviate parking concerns at the weekend-long event, complimentary shuttle bus service will be provided Saturday and Sunday. The shuttle bus also will also stop at many of the participating downtown Concord Restaurants.
