Police: NH Man Shoots Dog To Breakup Dogfight
MANCHESTER — Authorities were called to a New Hampshire residence after reports that a dog was shot and killed.
According to police Richard D’Amour of Manchester was walking his 5-year-old lab mix named Molly in the area of South Taylor Street and South Belmont Street when he saw two loose pit bulls ahead of him.
D’Amour told police that he turned and began heading back towards his home when the dogs started chasing him and Molly.
Responders say D’Amour made it to his rear porch when the larger pit bull named “Luigi” latched onto the side of Molly’s face.
D’Amour and a passerby attempted to separate the two dogs but were unable. Police say D’Amour then drew a pistol that he is licensed to possess and discharged one round into the pit bull’s upper torso, killing him.
Officers say the second pit bull was not involved in the incident and returned to his residence safely.
Authorities identified the pit bull’s owner as Adam Philbert who arrived at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation. He had current vaccination records for both of his dogs and said that the dogs had gotten out and he was attempting to locate them when the incident occurred.
