On Monday, he took a quick break to go fishing off the end of the town docks in Wolfeboro.
“I was fishing down by the docks and I heard a crash behind me thinking it was just a wheelbarrow working at the docks," Cray said. "I turned around and there was the hood and roof of a car sticking out of the water.”
Cray immediately threw down his fishing pole, dialed 911 and without hesitation, jumped into the water.
According to local authorities, it appeared that the driver, a bit confused, hit the accelerator instead of the brake before she plunged over the edge of the town docks. It took hours for crews to hoist the car from the water.
Cray did observe the driver walk over to the ambulance and was told that she will be OK. There was some damage that will need to be repaired to her car and the dock. Environmental crews also were called to contain a small fuel leak.
With all the commotion, Cray never even got a chance to fish. The crash happened as he still was getting his gear ready. He does plan on returning soon to his favorite spot.
This entire event may have served as training for Cray.
When asked what he wants to do in the future, “I passed the hearing test for the military. So, I am thinking first responder.”
