Dozens Take the Plunge Into Ocean in Hampton, New Hampshire
HAMPTON (AP) — The Northeast may be in a deep freeze but that hasn't stopped dozens from jumping into the Atlantic Ocean in Hampton, New Hampshire.
The event on Saturday was a fundraiser to help those with substance abuse disorders.
The Portsmouth Herald reports that the money will go to Chucky's Fight to help people get into a treatment facility or halfway house.
The temperature was hovering around 14 degrees and the ocean temperature was about 40 degrees when the participants took the plunge on Saturday.
Across the Northeast, similar polar plunges are being canceled or postponed. Those include the Lobster Dip in Maine, which has been held every New Year's Day for 30 years.
