All the Good Sports: Want to Make a Bet? How About for $150 Billion?
The first state to ratify the Constitution was Delaware. The first state, other than Nevada, to ratify sports gambling was Delaware. Since June 5, residents and visitors have warmly embraced the state’s newest attraction and revenue source.
New Jersey opened two sports gambling locations today with the overwhelming approval of Gov. Phil Murphy and the legislature. Next in line, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Mississippi with legislation already in place for Rhode Island and Connecticut.
New Hampshire state Sen. Lou D'Allesandro, of Manchester, is crafting legislation for a sports gaming bill for the Granite State.
If you don’t believe gambling is our national pastime, consider this: The American Gaming Association estimates that Americans illegally wager $150 billion a year.
By comparison, in a record year for the box office in 2016, Americans spent $11.6 billion going to the movies.
It’s long overdue but let’s thank the Supreme Court for allowing us to get some of that money into our state coffers to educate our children and fix our roads.
