WATCH: You’ll Need Some Tissues for this Special Graduation Speech
Don’t watch this video without a box of tissues close by!
The saying is so very true. You can do anything you set your mind to.
On Saturday, a senior at Plano Senior High School in Texas gave a speech at his graduation. What made it more special is that it was totally unexpected.
Sef Scott has autism and is mostly nonverbal. That all completely changed on stage. In fact, many people have never even heard him speak. Scott even received a standing ovation after his speech in which he encouraged his classmates to always do the unexpected.
"My brother Sam is a nine-year brain tumor survivor who has given dozens of speeches to raise money for various children’s charities since 2009," he told his classmates. "So with his help and that of my mother, we worked sentence by sentence to make my voice heard knowing that I want to be heard.
"You can sprinkle unexpected moments throughout your everyday life that can benefit those around you with very little effort on your part."
His message of inspiration concluded by reminding his fellow classmate’s that, "It is your life that you’re living, not anyone else’s. So do what fulfills you. Don’t fear the future. Don’t fear the unknown. Will it be unexpected? Yes, yes it will. But that does not make it wrong. Be the unexpected like me."
The words of wisdom Scott shared at his graduation has been shared thousands of times on social media. Congrats to Scott and the entire class of 2018!
