Traffic Alert: Motorcade Bringing Police Officer's Body from Portsmouth to Massachusetts
HAMPTON — A motorcade has been set up for the Massachusetts police officer who succumbed to his injuries suffered in a car crash over the weekend.
Officer Louis Remigio, 55, died late Monday night at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after sustaining significant injuries suffered when the motorcycle he was riding was hit by another vehicle on Interstate 95 in North Hampton on Sunday.
Remigio's body is being escorted from the hospital by a motorcade heading south to Massachusetts.
A 30-year veteran with the police force, Remigio was riding his 2003 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound around 9:30 a.m. on his day off, when 18-year-old Michael Ricci, of Burlington, Massachusetts, drove through a restricted access crossover from the northbound to southbound lane hitting Remigio's motorcycle, police said. Police believe Ricci was racing other vehicles with his 2013 Mercedes.
Ricci was released on bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Rockingham County Superior Court in Brentwood on Oct. 20 for felony reckless conduct.
