Julian Edelman Visits Cancer Patient in Hospital Days After Facebook Request
Twenty-one-year-old Justyna Boucher from Chicopee, Massachusetts has a rare form of cancer. She was diagnosed with Soft Tissue Phyllodes Sarcoma three years ago, while a senior in high school. The disease began attacking her bones and soft tissue.
Despite chemotherapy, radiation, multiple surgeries and a short time in remission, the tumors returned and Boucher was told she only has about 6 months to live. At the end of April, Boucher took to Facebook to explain her condition and share her wish of meeting New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman.
Like Boucher, Edelman, or as his true fans call him "Incredlman," is my favorite Patriot.
Not only because he's an excellent ball player, but 11 is my favorite number just like it's Boucher's. Most every significant event in my life has happened on the 11th. I see the 11th minute of every waking hour. It's a very spiritual number, which is the main reason Boucher loves it so much.
It reminds her to stay positive and keep looking up. Her wish came true when Edelman visited her at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, just days after her Facebook post, bringing some Patriots gear, including a No. 11 jersey and posing for a selfie with the caption, "Character isn’t built through easy times, it’s built on how you carry yourself through the hardest obstacles. Justyna your perseverance and positive attitude should be an example for anyone fighting an uphill battle. I can’t express to you what it means to call you a friend."
Boucher is hoping that her story will bring more awareness to her rare condition.
