Massachusetts man injured on NH trail after ATV rolls on top of him
DIXVILLE — A Massachusetts man had to be transported to the hospital after an ATV he was operating rolled over on top of him Monday.
New Hampshire Fish and Game said around 12 p.m., 52-year-old Roger T. Rand of Winchester, Massachusetts, was driving an ATV on the Flume Brook Road Trail. While navigating downhill on a rough section of trail, officers said Rand lost control of his ATV and went off the side of the trail.
Rand told officials he believed he activated the vehicle's front brakes, causing the ATV to roll on top of him.
Officials said Rand was wearing a helmet during the crash and after resting for a while, he decided to continue riding.
At about 2 p.m., when he and his riding party made it to Diamond Peaks Store, they called for help, and Rand was transported by 45th Parallel EMS to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital for the treatment of his injuries.
The crash is still under investigation, but Fish and Game said it appears that inexperience with operating the rented ATV was a primary factor in the crash.
