Laconia residents sue state over proposed WOW Trail extension
LACONIA — Residents along the proposed WOW Trail extension have filed a lawsuit in an attempt to stop the project.
The Laconia Daily Sun reports that the planned 5-mile extension to the Winnisquam-Opechee-Winnipesaukee Trail along the South Down Shores and Long Bay communities has the residents of those communities concerned.
Residents of the communities are worried that the trail extension would lessen their privacy and that some trail-goers may engage in unlawful activity along that part of the trail.
The lawsuit states that the extension would complicate access to Paugus Bay, diminish the views of the bay and harm the community in other unspecified ways.
Gretchen Gandini, a spokeswoman for the trails organization, told The Daily Sun that there were plans for the WOW Trail to be extended along the South Down Shores and Long Bay communities.
The WOW Trail currently runs along the rail corridor from Elm Street in Lakeport to the Belmont town line.
