'Good Samaritan' finds Salem police rifle, returns it to station
SALEM - City resident Bob McQuaid - called a 'good Samaritan' by the Salem Police Department - returned a Salem police officer's missing rifle.
Officers confirmed that the canvas bag that was found and returned contained all of its contents.
The rifle went missing around 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday after the officer failed to properly store the weapon in his cruiser's trunk. He did not notice that rifle had gone missing until his shift ended at around 11:45 p.m. that night.
McQuaid told NH1 News he found the bag on his routine morning walk.
"At first I thought it was a musical instrument, but then I heard on TV the police were missing a gun, and I told my neighbors I think I found it," said McQuaid.
Later Wednesday Afternoon, Salem police went to McQuaid's home to thank him in person for his help.
