Franklin man convicted after filming himself performing sex acts with 3-year-old NH child
CONCORD — A Franklin man who produced child pornography involving himself and a three-year-old child was convicted Friday.
Acting U.S. Attorney John J. Farley announced Monday that a federal jury found Brad Smith, 33, guilty of six counts of producing child pornography.
Evidence presented during the trial showed that in January of 2016, police in Lafayette, Louisiana received a tip that an email address associated with Smith was distributing child pornography. They traced the email address to a farm that Smith resided in at the time in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.
After receiving his consent, officers analyzed a hard drive belonging to Smith and uncovered a series of videos apparently created by the Smith.
Investigators determined that Smith had filmed himself engaging in multiple sexual acts with a three-and-half-year-old child in Loudon, New Hampshire and saved the videos to a hard drive before taking them to Louisiana.
“The evidence in this trial demonstrated that the defendant committed horrific acts upon a defenseless young child. Even more terribly, he filmed these acts in order to create child pornography," acting U.S. Attorney John J. Farley said.
Farley said the U.S. Attorney’s Office and law enforcement work tirelessly to prosecute individuals who steal the innocence of young victims.
"I commend the performance of the law enforcement officers and prosecutors whose work secured this conviction," he said. "I hope that the jury’s verdict provides some comfort to the victim and the victim’s family.”
Smith is scheduled to be sentenced on July 18.
