Derry police believe body found in woods is NH man missing since December
DERRY — The search for a man missing since Dec. 13 has likely come to a tragic end.
Police said an off-duty officer was hiking Friday in the wooded area off Rockingham Road at 11:34 a.m. when he discovered human remains in a swampy area next to “Tributary G” Brook.
The brook passes under Rockingham Road near Bradford Street. The officer found the body about 200 yards into the wooded area from Rockingham Road and police said they believe it is John "Jack" Walsh.
An investigation by Derry police detectives indicated the body had been there for an extended period of time and there were no signs of foul play.
Walsh's family had been vigilant in searching for him after he walked away from Parkland Medical Center after a doctor's appointment. Hospital surveillance video showed Walsh leaving the hospital alone.
Walsh's family started a Facebook page called Bring Jack Home, where people can share information, spread the word and provide updates about the search.
Three days after his disappearance NH1 News sat down with his sisters and niece who were hopeful they would find him alive.
"Everyone's just working together because that's the main focus,"Walsh's sister Jennifer Bakanosky said at the time. "We're all just looking to bring Jack home."
The state Medical Examiner's office is conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
