Sex Offender Arrested After Trying to Volunteer at NH Youth Organization
PORTSMOUTH — A previously convicted sex offender was arrested for failing to register after he attempted to volunteer at a youth organization.
Police said Joseph C. Diment, 77, of Wells, Maine, turned himself in Wednesday after a warrant was issued for his failure to report as a sex offender, a class B felony.
Police said Diment had attempted to volunteer at a local youth organization without registering with the Portsmouth Police Department. Diment was required to complete a background check for the organization, but when he failed to do so, the police were contacted.
Diment was released on $2,500 personal recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth district court Nov. 27.
