MANCHESTER- Police arrested a Rockingham County assistant attorney for driving under the influence in the Queen City over the weekend, causing a crash downtown.
Manchester police arrested Alexander Gatzoulis, 36, of Manchester on the suspicion he was drunk when he allegedly slammed his Cadillac into a parked car on a city street early Saturday morning, according to Manchester police.
No one was injured, but a man's Toyota Camry received moderate damage after the back part of the vehicle was allegedly struck by Gatzoulis near the intersection of Lowell Street and Ashland Street.
Gatzoulis was released to a sober person later that morning, according to police.
It is unclear whether Gatzoulis is still employed by the county.
Gatzoulis closed his private practice this spring when he took the county job, according to a post on the practice's Facebook page in May.
Part of that social media post reads, "I begin June 5th. This continues my long-held dream of working as a prosecutor and furthers my pesonal (sic) goals. I am excited to be joining RCAO. These past few years have been wonderful working with you. There have been many ups, and many downs, but in the end, we were able to work through your challenges and attain positive outcomes. When I first opened the LOAGG, it was during a time where my career was in peril -- but you made doing so worthwhile and resurrected my passion for the law. For that, I thank you.
Though the LOAGG may be closed, we never know what the future may hold. One day, years down the line, there may be a time when they once again open. For now, however, this next chapter in my career is an opportunity that I must pursue."
He was also identified as a former prosecutor for the Weare Police Department and Merrimack County according to the Weare Police Department website.
Gatzoulis has a court date of December 14.
