NH AG Identifies Man Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting in Canaan
CANAAN — The death of an Enfield man has been ruled a homicide.
The New Hampshire Attorney General's office identifed a man shot by a police officer on Saturday as 26-year-old Jesse J. Champney.
The shooting occurred just before 6:30 p.m. in a field at the junction of Route 4 and Switch Road in Canaan.
Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jennie Duval performed an autopsy on Champney on Sunday. He had four gunshot wounds, one of which was fatal, and Duval ruled his death a homicide.
The trooper, whose name has not been disclosed, has been placed on administrative leave and is expected to be interviewed early next week.
The investigation is ongoing and will police say they will provide further information as it is available.
