He Sucker Punched a Seacoast Drummer and Killed Him, and Now He'll Spend Years in Prison
DOVER — A Barnstead man was sentenced to prison after punching and ultimately causing the death of another man outside a bar in 2016.
A jury found Eric Langlais, 43, guilty of causing James Unfonak's death in September. On Nov. 1 a judge sentenced him to the New Hampshire State Prison for 3½ to seven years.
In January 2016, Langlais punched Unfonak in the jaw outside of Gary’s Sports Bar in Rochester. This caused Unfonak to fall and hit his head on the ground. The resulting blunt force head injuries caused Unfonak's death.
Langlais was found not guilty of manslaughter, but he was found guilty of negligent homicide and the crime of riot.
Along with the prison sentence, Langlais also has been ordered to take part in anger management counseling.
According to court documents, Langlais punched Unfonak because of a rude comment made at the bar.
