Jury Deliberating in Case of Massachusetts Trooper Accused of Assaulting Chase Suspect
NASHUA (AP) — A jury has the case of a Massachusetts state trooper accused of beating a suspect in New Hampshire following a 50-mile pursuit in 2016.
The jury deliberated in the trial of Joseph Flynn for a couple of hours Wednesday before finishing for the day. Flynn testified he was concerned about getting a non-compliant man under control and into handcuffs.
Prosecutors allege the 33-year-old Flynn punched Richard Simone Jr., who was kneeling following the chase from Massachusetts into Nashua.
Flynn said he was assisting other officers in subduing Simone and threw "submission blows."
Flynn pleaded not guilty to simple assault charges and has been free on bail and on administrative leave. A New Hampshire state trooper had pleaded guilty to assault charges.
