Former MLB Pitching Star Busted With More Than 40 lbs. of Suspected Coke
SAN DIEGO- A former Major League Baseball pitcher was arrested and charged with possessing and transporting narcotics in a California drug bust.
According to published reports, including one in the New York Daily News, Esteban Loaiza was arrested in San Diego with about $500,000 in cocaine.
Officials think the stash was being moved as part of an ongoing smuggling operation.
Loaiza, a 14-year veteran, also played for other MLB teams, including the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was the American League's starting pitcher in the 2003 All-Star game.
