CANDIA — State police closed down both sides of Route 101 Wednesday after a reported distraught driver refused to obey police and threatened to harm himself.
New Hampshire State Police attempted to pull over a 2012 Dodge Avenger Wednesday afternoon on Route 101 West after learning the driver was distraught and had possibly threatened to harm himself with a knife. The driver, later identified as Rob Haskell, 30, of Hampton would not pull over and continued driving west towards Manchester.
Police decided to deploy spike strips and they said Haskell finally pulled the vehicle over in Candia. Police said traffic was stopped in both directions until the situation was under control.
Haskell was arrested and charged with disobeying a police officer. He is expected to be arraigned Thursday morning at 10:45 a.m.
Stratham and Candia police helped with the pursuit as well as the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office.
