Disappearing Act: Driver Hit Several Vehicles While Impaired, Then Fled Scene, Police Say
PORTSMOUTH — Officers charged a city man with driving while intoxicated after responding to a crash scene and finding several vehicles damaged.
On Friday just after 7 p.m., police responded to a hit-and-run crash in the area of Broad and Spring streets.
The suspect hit several vehicles parked legally on the street causing significant damage.
The suspect fled the scene but officers found the driver in a nearby driveway, police said.
The driver was identified as John Vendola, 69, of Portsmouth. Vendola showed obvious signs of impairment and was arrested, police said.
He was charged with driving while intoxicated and two counts of conduct after an accident.
Vendola was released on $1,000 bail and will appear in court on Feb 28. There were no injuries reported from this accident.
