Body of NH man who fell into the Connecticut has been recovered
HINSDALE — The body of a Hinsdale man who fell into the Connecticut River on Wednesday night was recovered Thursday night.
Andrew Laffond, 29, of Hinsdale, was walking along an abandoned railroad bridge around 8:15 p.m. Wednesday night, between Hinsdale and Brattleboro, Vermont, when Laffond fell into the river.
Witnesses in the area called 911 and rescue crews from Hinsdale and Brattleboro Fire Departments searched the area near the bridge and downstream but were unsuccessful in finding Laffond.
Officers from New Hampshire Fish and Game began their recovery efforts Thursday morning and were faced with very treacherous search conditions due to recent rain storms.
After searching the area for most of the day, divers found Laffond's body in 44 feet of water around 6 p.m. Thursday.
Hinsdale police assisted Fish and Game in the recovery effort.
Foul play is not suspected to be a factor at this time.
