Blowing snow leads to accidents, closure of I-95 in Portsmouth
PORTSMOUTH - Blowing snow is being blamed for a number of accidents this morning on Interstate 95 near the Maine/New Hampshire border.
State Police say they were called to the scene of several accidents on Interstate 95 southbound near Exit 5 in Portsmouth just after 8:30am. The accidents blocked all three lanes on the southbound side.
With whiteout conditions from blowing snow, State Police closed Interstate 95 southbound just after 9am. The right two travel lanes were re-opened just after 9:30am, with the left lane reopened shortly after 11am.
If you drive on Interstate 95 southbound from Exit 7 to Exit 4 State Police are asking you to watch out for blowing snow and snow accumulating in travel lanes.
Speed is believed to be a factor in this morning's accidents.
