Black Ice Pond hockey tournament underway
CONCORD - Concord is the coolest place to be this weekend as the Black Ice Pond Hockey Tournament is underway. This is the fifth year for this tournament and there are teams from all over the region and all over the country.
One team came all the way up from Miami, Florida, that just shows you the popularity of this tournament. They play like they played originally. Pond hockey. They keep score. The shovel the ice off the rink in between games there are several different ice rinks here at White Park and we talked to one team up here from Boston that said they never miss the tournament.
"It's something fun about it. It brings you back. It's like the Winter Classic for the N-H-L," said Boston resident Mathew Setterlund. "You just do it for fun for the sake of it. It's not about winning, it's about getting out here."
"Really good atmosphere. During the day the music was playing everyone was playing some hockey everyone in good spirits so it was a lot of fun," said Burrillville, Rhode Island resident Taryn Lapierre. "It was our second year doing it."
They play all day and all night. The tournament runs through the weekend and they will play snow or shine they say, the colder it is here, the better.
