Sununu Names Members of NH Cruelty Prevention Commission
Governor Chris Sununu announced Monday the names appointed to a new commission designed to combat animal cruelty in the state of New Hampshire.
The 22 person commission consists of animal welfare advocates, lawmakers, veterinarians, animal shelter employees and members of the general public.
This follows Sununu's executive order last month revamping the Governor's Commission on the Humane Treatment of Animals.
“Animal Cruelty will not be tolerated in New Hampshire. I am proud to revamp the Governor’s Commission on the Humane Treatment of Animals, making it easier for the Commission to recruit members, as well as expanding their duties to include tracking and promoting current legislation, which will allow them a voice in the legislative process," Sununu said in a statement. "I look forward to working with the commission, advocates and legislators to pass commonsense legislation that protects animals, ensuring that the type of situation that took place in Wolfeboro never happens again.”
In June, 84 Great Dane dogs were removed from a feces and urine filled mansion in Wolfeboro back. Dog owner Christina Fay is facing a dozen charges relating to animal cruelty. She has pleaded not guilty and is next expected in court Oct. 3.
