No. 4: Pardon a 'Beary' Big Deal
NH1'S TOP STORIES OF 2017: No. 4, Three young bears and their mother get a pardon from Gov. Chris sununu
In May, three yearlings and their mother became a nuisance in Hanover.
Several reports of the bears feasting on trash and bird feeders and even breaking into homes left New Hampshire's Fish and Game Department with no choice but to euthanize the animals.
However, public outcry led Gov. Chris Sununu to pardon the bears and ordered them to be relocated giving them a second chance to get back to nature.
One of the bears eventually met his demise in Canada at the hands of a hunter. Fish and Game officials said the other bears may have met the same fate but they will never know because some hunters engage in "shoot, shovel, shut up" and don't report their take.
