A NH Shelter Found This Bird Abandoned Inside a Trash Bag
STRATHAM — Employees found a bird abandoned in a trash bag outside the shelter Friday.
At 10:30 a.m. Friday, a staff member at the New Hamsphire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animials found a soft carrier inside a white plastic bag. When the woman opened the bag, which was suctioned tight against the sides of the carrier, she found the bird, who is believed to be a blue fronted Amazon.
The bird, now known as “Mayday," hasn’t shown any signs of eating since he was abandoned.
After reviewing surveillence video, the shelter discovered that a blond woman in a newer blue sedan left the bird around 9 a.m.
The shelter is asking the woman who abandoned the bird to call them so they can provide the bird with better care.
"Mayday appears to be a bird that self-plucks his feathers and has a sweet but nervous disposition," the shelter wrote in a post on its website.
The bird was evaluated by a veterinarian on Friday and was going to get another evaluation on Monday.
Abandoning animals is a misdemeanor in New Hampshire. Anyone with information is asked to contact the NHSPCA at 603-772-2921, ext. 111.
