4 arrested in Manchester after fight involving brass knuckles and a gunshot
MANCHESTER — Police responded to the area of Maple Street and Spruce Street on Wednesday afternoon for a fight involving a firearm.
A witness called and told officials that a man on the scene had fired a handgun into the air.
The gunshot caused the crowd to disperse and some smaller fights to break out.
An 18-year-old woman was the victim of a physical altercation with another woman, who was later identified and arrested as Jailene Vega Pegan, 24. The victim was hit several times by Vega Pagan and her set of brass knuckles, police said. Vega Pagan's boyfriend, Orlando Velez Csiano, 23, was allegedly responsible for shooting his handgun in the air.
The two turned themselves in and Vega Pagan was charged with second-degree assault and released on $1,000 bail. Velez Casiano was charged with reckless conduct and released on personal recognizance, and his handgun was confiscated. Both are set to appear in court on June 29.
Two more arrests were made, Keishla Casiano, 22, was arrested for allegedly assaulting an officer as he tried to detain her. She was charged with resisting arrest/detention and simple assault. She was released on $500 bail. She is also scheduled to appear in court on June 29.
Katria Cancela, 29, was approached by an officer when she seemed to be avoiding contact, leading the officer to believe she was involved. The officer also saw an object inside her shirt. When she removed it, it was a powdery substance. A female officer arrived to remove the drugs from her shirt. The drug was identified as heroin, and Cancela was charged with possession of a controlled drug.
She was released on $500 bail and will appear on June 29.
