Laconia Has 125 Reasons to Celebrate

LACONIA — The city celebrates its 125th anniversary this year, and the first event to kick off the year-long celebration happens Friday night at the Laconia Community Center.

It’s the Miss Laconia and Jr. Miss Laconia Scholarship Pageant, also celebrating 125 years. These young ladies will compete against one another in standard categories, such as evening gown, interview and talent. In addition, this Pageant will emphasize community service and cultural heritage in its contestants.

The excitement gets underway at 7 p.m., and the evening also will feature Miss Diamond Jubilee, Carolyn Bancroft, who was crowned in 1968, and Miss Laconia Centennial, Julie Bush, who won her crown in 1993.

Entertainment will be provided by the Stages Dance Academy dancers!

The winners will go on to represent the city at the gala in March, and the parade in the summer. And hopefully, they'll be here to crown their successors in 25 years!

Celebrate Laconia organized the event and Sanborn's Auto Repair and Meredith Village Savings Bank are sponsors.
