NH Farm Will Keep Its Promise to Less Fortunate Families Despite Selling Out of Trees

Even though the last Christmas tree for sale has left the lot, the season of giving continues at Ten Rod farm in Rochester.

For the third year in a row, the farm is donating over 20 Christmas trees to needy families in the tri-city area, and helping to raise money for Hope on Haven Hill, a facility for expectant and post-partum mothers suffering from addiction.

This past weekend, Matt Scruton, owner of Ten Rod Farm, said he sold his last tree to a customer but wanted to uphold his promise to Goodwill in Somersworth that he would make available free Christmas trees to those who couldn’t afford one.

“We sold out but still wanted to donate, so we went back up to the farm we support in northern New Hampshire and came back with 20 more trees,” he said on 98.1 WTSN’s “The Noon News Hour” with Dave Andreesen. “We believe every family should have a tree in their home.”

If you or someone you know is in need this holiday season and can’t afford a tree, you can visit the Goodwill on High Street in Somersworth and ask for a voucher. You then bring that voucher to Ten Rod Farm to pick up a tree. Only 20 trees are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

For the second year, Ten Rod Farm has helped to raise funds for Hope on Haven Hill in Rochester, a multi-room facility on Route 108 that helps moms and  moms-to-be dealing with substance abuse issues.

“Our customers have donated over $1,200 this year, and I’m going to bring a check to (co-owner) Kerry Norton this week,” Scruton said. “They do such a great job for the community, but unfortunately, the demand outstrips the availability of services.”

Ten Rod Farm is now officially closed for the season, and Scruton said he’s always overwhelmed by the support his customers have not only given his business, but the entire community. “We feel so wonderful and so blessed to be part of this community,” he said.

Ten Rod Farm is at 195 Ten Rod Road in Rochester. For more information, visit tenrodfarm.com.
